OUR NEXT BIG STEP
Emergency Bedding in the Greater Hartford Area.
We are proud to announce the establishment of Connecticut's first emergency safe home for trafficked victims in the Greater Hartford Area with an initial 7-21 day period of stabilization and assessment. Rescued women will have access to a room, food, and clothing at no charge for a short term duration. Supportive and compassionate volunteers and coaches will assist in linking to community resources, therapeutic services, and housing.
Provide the first steps to freedom - Combatting modern-day slavery!
The Underground is a grass-roots faith-based initiative dedicated to ending sex trafficking in Connecticut. Since it began in late 2013, The Underground has grown to over 1,900 members from almost 200 churches and ministries. The Underground uses a unique model that allows churches to pool human and financial resources to work cooperatively toward the common goal of ending modern-day slavery. Because of that cooperation, The Underground is able to put all donations directly toward victims and survivors in Connecticut. The hope of The Underground is to gather the faith-based community and engage them to serve and fight against sex trafficking.
In 2016, The Underground began the process of bringing church leadership together in order to bring transitional
housing to aged-out youth and young adult victims of trafficking. This decision resulted from our state and non-profit
partners notifying us that there was a need in CT for this resource.
As we researched transitional housing, we began to learn that additional support was needed for victims of trafficking upon rescue. Through our collaboration with outreach agencies, Homeland Security and Amirah NE, we recognized the importance of providing emergency housing for rescued victims, where all of their daily needs would be met and where referral sources had time to assist victims with the next steps in a pathway to care. As Families United heard of this critical need, they raised their hands to help!
Together Families United and The Underground worked with partners to find the right location for safe, emergency beds in Connecticut; and Families United has been hard at work in establishing the "Wellspring" freedom home. The Underground is committed to assisting Wellspring in establishing its services and has bridged key partners to this cause. This collaboration has resulted in the first Tier-1 home in CT!
